Create a world choropleth map from country data

Prepare country or region values

Use one row per supported country or region. English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, and French names can be searched where available, and common international codes provide a stable alternative. Keep the value field numeric.

Use region shortcuts, then refine the country list

Turn on Multiple to reveal Select by region. Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, Oceania, and the European Union are independent shortcuts: only the shortcut you click becomes active. Combine shortcuts deliberately, then add or remove individual countries to match the dataset. Selected labels receive normal emphasis while context labels remain quieter.

Choose a familiar world-map center

World maps wrap longitude, so the central meridian changes where the map is split. EasyMap provides international or European, China or East Asia, Pacific, and Americas presets. Choose the version that keeps the study area continuous and familiar to the intended audience.

Handle small islands and Antarctica honestly

Tiny island geometries remain part of the map and matching system, but their labels may be omitted at world scale because even a 2px label can exceed the visible polygon. Antarctica stays available for explicit selection but is not shown in the default world overview.

Make the legend explain the comparison

Use a sequential palette for low-to-high values and a diverging palette only when a meaningful midpoint exists. Put the unit in the legend title, keep no-data countries separate from zero, and include the year in the title or subtitle when the data are time-specific.
